Pomona, CA. 857 East Columbia Avenue
At about 6:30 P.M. on Sunday, November 19, 2006, about 15-20
people were gathered in the front yard of 857 East Columbia Avenue
as darkness fell. A light colored SUV drove slowly past the residence.
For no apparent reason, and without any known provocation, the
driver and sole occupant fired several rounds at the persons in
the yard. The 16 year-old juvenile, who was closer to the street,
was struck in the pelvic region and went down.
The three-year-old, Ethan Esparza, was playing on the lit porch
of the house, and was hit in the upper torso by gunfire. Esparza's
wounds were fatal, and hospital personnel were unable to save
his life.
Our investigation strongly suggests that this assault was an
act of gang violence. Although Ethan was likely not the intended
target, his murder was senseless and brutal, and we are asking
for the community's help in getting information.
Suspect is describe as a male Hispanic, 20's, short hair. The
vehicle driven was a newer model sport utility vehicle(SUV), probable
GM product, light color.
